Interview to PSYC6 (Sweden)

rottenpages

1.Hello my friend, pleasure to have you on Rotten Pages ´zine. How are you doing today? Let us set the scene first. Where do we find you right now? Please describe your surroundings.

Right now we are sitting in our rehersal place, it’s in a basement so we are surrounded by our gear as we are setting up to do some rehersal. It´s mostly cement walls with thick black cloth to muffle the sound coming from the rehersal.

2. For those who are not all that familiar with you yet, could you tell us about the musical background of the band and how you came to work with each other?

Well the story began in 2012 when I ”Milo” the singer had an audition for a band called Within where Jonatan the rythm guitarrist played in, I did get the part and the jurney began, within was a bit softer more rock than anything else, we had a some trouble with finding a drummer but in 2019 Gabriel joined us. In 2022 Within went on a hiatus so Jonatan and Gabriel had a talk about starting up a sideproject and play a bit more heavy music, after a while they asked me and PSYC 6 was formed

3. PSYC 6 is a power melodic groove metal band that originated in Sweden in the year 2022. Which was the strongest and weakest moment of your musical journey so far?

As PSYC 6 the strongest moment has to be the release of our EP if we have to pick anything, and at the same time the weakest becuase our the lead gutarrplayer chose to leave us to pursue his own projects.

4. Talking about your personal career as musicians. What has changed in your mindset since the beginning of your musical path? Explain me, please the evolution process that made you become what are you now.

I think that for us the biggest change is that we are a band, a unit and we need to stand together as a unit and have each others backs. It’s not always easy, also never rush when creating music let everything have it’s couse and in the end magic will happen.

5. You´ve released your debut EP a few months ago, Judging by the press and fans’ reactions, I can safely deduct that everybody was pleased by this release. What effect has this EP’s reception on you? How do you fell about it?

We are thrilled about the response we have gotten for the EP, it’s has not changed all to much for us as of right now, we are in the midst of trying out a couple of new band members due to our lead guitarr player and bassplayer leaving the band.

But we are hungry to record new music and get out on stage as soon as possible.

6. Are the reactions from the fans similar to the ones from the press?

The fans absolutly love the EP, what can we say the response has been overwhealming.

7. How do you work as a band? What’s the process you follow when composing new music? Is it predetermined process, or do you leave substantial space for improvisations?

Usually Jonathan has a riff in his head and he plays it in between sessions when he is bored or needs to warm up, I The singer picks up on something or someone else does and we urge him to continue, I find lyrics that fit the music and Gabriel starts playing something and that’s the start of a new song.

When recording we prerecord a song and listen to it to see if there is anything thats sounds off and if there is anything we would like to add, when we are done the song is finished.

8. What are some topics discussed in “I am Your Sin” and why did you select this title for your EP?

The topics af the EP are mostly about the darkes side of humanity, how we are driven by our urges and sometimes theese urges take over our mindset. The title was chosen becuase it was the first song we wrote as PSYC 6 and we felt it sums up the whole EP.

9. With so many bands coming up these days, how do you manage to keep your material relevant? How challenging is it to come up with newer material?

Lyrically it’s hard to write and keep relevant but also I really do not write lyrics to be relevant, I write about things I see and what I feel at times just to let go of steam and anger building up inside.

But there is so much going on in the world it’s hard not to finns inspiration to be honest.

10. You have already played with some bands, in the past. What are your impressions? How important is live performance for PSYC6? Do you play often? If so how does your show looks like?

Playing live is imortant it’s our way of connecting with the audience and let’s face it we love playig live shows there is nothing better for a band. We do not play as often as we would like but we hope that it will change soon. We mosly play minor venues as of now but our goal is to expand and play bigger venues in the future.

We had an old show with me being the warden and everyone else being mental patients on stage but we have a new concept for the evolution of the band that noone has seen yet.

11. What is music for you? Does it bring you some new emotions or it helps you to

get ride of some negative emotions?

Music helps us to deal with everyday life, to let go of negative emotions and just be ourselves. It’s our way of expressing ourselves.

12. What is the heavy music scene like in Blekinge?  What are some other bands from your country that we should be paying attention to?

The heavy scene in Blekinge is not as big as we would like to hope for, but there are a couple of band that are good to look out for, bands like Caregah, Conquer Red, istapp and many more. Theese are the ones of the top of my head.

13. Promotion has become vital in these times. With hundreds of bands releasing albums in the same time period, it’s become a struggle to get noticed. How do you see the future of promotion and recording?

It’s hard to see how the future will be, it’s hard enough now to get through all the other bands and stand out. One needs just working hard and promoting as much as possible and it’s also thank to guys like you that hel pus lesser known band to get heard out there.

14. Do you have a special “dream” to achieve in music? Like playing a special show, doing a special recording or playing with a special musician?

The dream is to play live at the big venues with thousands of people singing along in the songs, but as we would be happy if we could live of our music to be honest as long as we get to be out there playing our music

15. We have reached the end of our conversation, is there something that you want to say still?

We would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to do this interview and also fo everyone reading this, listen to our songs and keep supporting your local bands without you there would not be any.
